In 2011 I traveled to China for an internship. Therefor I have been in Shanghai, Ningbo and beautiful Quingdao 🙂
My first stop from Dusseldorf to Shanghai was Istanbul airport (Ataturk Airport). There I took place in a small Turkish bar and drank some very tasty EFES, beer from Turkey. As I recalled I thought I had more time on my hands so I made it worth my while and relaxed. But I didn’t realize time difference and so I suddenly had to hurry up to get catch the flight DX
After arriving in Shanghai my manager directly gave me a tour through the office. As you can see, smog is a big problem like in western cities. In view of the current situation the Chinese governement shows the right signal investing in electric cars and introducing a quote for.
My Chinese colleague Kasey showed my the historical district from Shanghai.
It is a very touristic, but lovely place with many shops and artists and you can have a look at what they are working on.
Several days later I have visited this district again to have dinner in a typical Chinese restaurant. You can not order duck or chicken like in western Chinese Restaurants. Many dishes contain noodles, rice and soup. It tastes mild and fresh at the same time. Highly recommendable ! 🙂
In 2011 I had a look at the construction of the 2015 completed Shanghai Tower. With 632m the tower is the second tallest building in the world.
From Oriental Pearl Tower you have a fantastic view of the Bund and the surrounding districts. Where ever you look, you can see skyscrapers.
As you can see, Shanghai has a very European architecture. Especially the British influence has brought this familiar style. I really appreciate this mixture of Chinese and Western culture.
One day my colleagues and I visited a German Restaurant. It is nice to be able to eat something abroad you know from home. Thanks for this happy surprise!
After dinner we explored the Shanghai nightlife. You have such a wide variety of clubs and bars, it’s too difficult to list. Just go out and try on your own…
…we have done that. After a long night we had “breakfast” in a very Chinese district with very Chinese dishes like jellyfish salad and crow’s feet, as you can see in the picture.
To Quingdao I have traveled to inspect Chinese suppliers. Compared to other Chinese cities Quingdao has many green places and a very high living standard.
Inside a typical Chinese factory.
In the end of the day, as highlight of the trip, we ate the blowfish, a very poisonous fish and local delicacy.
Seen on the streets during inspection tour.
During my trip I stayed in many different hotels in different parts of the country. All of them have had a high standard and I can personally say that I have felt very well.
At the end of my internship I was overloaded with impressions. I was able to see so many different cities and got to know different types of people. For me, China is a multifaceted and ambitious country with almost endless potential in economy and culture. There are so many things you have to see. Go on and discover the Middle Kingdom 🙂
